The inlang ecosystem does not support pluralization yet.

Request

Add pluralization capabilities to the inlang SDK and apps.

This complex feature request requires additions in the SDK and every inlang app. The inlang SDK's message AST already contains the basics for message matching inspired by https://github.com/unicode-org/message-format-wg. Message matching allows matching plurals, gender, and more. @NilsJacobsen was involved with message matching.

Is there a way to make contributions to speed this along? Translation without proper pluralization is just not good enough for our use case.

I understand that for inlang the lack of pluralization support would be a blocker internally, but for parachute is there something blocking it from being implemented there publicly? Thank!

@osdiab paraglide js uses the inlang sdk. if the inlang sdk doesn't support pluralization, paraglide can't support it either.

The components already exist. We are starting the work on importer/exporters rn that support pluralization cc @felixhaeberle @martin-lysk.

Does it mean that currently using https://inlang.com/m/3i8bor92/plugin-inlang-i18next with I18Next still would not provide plurals?

Plurals are supported by i18next. Hence, you can use plurals. Inlang apps like Sherlock or Fink can't display those plurals yet though.

@samuelstroschein I saw the pull request was merged. Is there a new npm release coming soon for @inlang/paraglide-js? Is there an example of how to use pluralization?

Hi @peterolson, the prerelease of paraglide js 2.0 is planned for Monday/Tuesday. More info will follow.

cc @LorisSigrist (coordinates the prerelease). Loris, I would look into creating a discord channel #paraglide-js-prerelease or similar to aggregate feedback and keep people in the loop who want to use the prerelease

The 2.0 prerelease is now tracked in issue opral/inlang-paraglide-js#201. Please subscribe to the issue to stay up to date. The prerelease will happen this week. I am taking over Paraglide JS as Loris left us to go back to college.
