Hi, I'm Christian Schwarz, a recent computer science graduate located in Karlsruhe, Germany.
I'm interested in software system design, implementation and operation.
I believe that we are obliged to build software systems that are debuggable, reliable and correct, and that good programming languages and tools can help us pursue that goal.
My open-source activity is mostly in the OpenZFS sphere:
- I develop and maintain zrepl a one-stop solution for ZFS backup & replication that aims to be more maintainable, smarter at error handling and ZFS feature support than the usual shell script, and most importantly correct.
- I am also involved in the OpenZFS community: I attend most leadership meetings and occasionally contribute code to the project.
zrepl's ongoing development and project management takes a significant amount of my spare time (~10-15h per week at least, big features usually take more time).
With a growing user base, new issues and use cases come up that need to be triaged, analyzed and implemented.
And while I enjoy seeing zrepl grow and evolve, I often find myself implementing a feature that I am personally never going to use.
Financial support for zrepl means that I can afford the time to properly analyze and implement new use cases and features instead of rushing them out with yet another thoughtlessly added configuration knob.
Thanks for your support!
